Men and women today are gearing to have leaner looking and fitter bodies. That is why they exercise a lot. And one of the major focuses of these exercises is the leg muscles.
There are many effective leg exercises that you can have. It is up to you to choose which you are more comfortable with, or which you think are more effective.
First, you can try squat exercises. You will need a barbell to achieve the best possible effects for this routine. You may also use a squats machine, or a power rack for a safer execution of this exercise.
Before you start lifting weights, you should determine how much you can carry. Make sure you choose a weight that’s not too straining or not very light also. A too heavy weight can injure your muscles, while a light weight will never produce your desired results.
You should start by lifting smaller weights and progressing through time.
To do barbell squats using free weights, you should stand up straight with your feet apart equally. Then you carry the weights at your shoulders. After that, you slowly perform the squats. Make sure that during the whole routine, you keep your back straight. You can do this in front of a mirror to maintain the equality of your lift. Also, for added safety, have a partner spot you.
After barbell squats, you can do leg press. This is to exercise your quadriceps. You can choose from inclined, vertical, or horizontal machines to use in your routine. However, the most commonly used is a 45° inclination.
The effects of a leg press can be the same with the effects of a barbell squat. One benefit that this has over the squat is that it produces to effort to the back. Therefore, you will not experience any back strains.
Another effective exercise is the leg curl. It can be done while lying or standing next to a leg curl machine. This will also develop your hamstring muscles. You can perform the lying method as this can be the most effective in both types. This works out your hamstring muscles because you try to lift a weight using the strength of those muscles.
This exercise is done slowly and not in a rushed manner. And in between performance of this routine, you can stretch your muscles to prevent straining.
Leg extensions are another exercise for your leg muscles. In here, you can perform by sitting down and extending your leg muscles in order to carry a weight. This will help develop your quadriceps. For best results, you can do this after a barbell squat.
There are still a lot more leg muscle exercises that you can choose from. These, however, are the most common ones used.
